Hula your way to great abs?

It's Friday — and after yesterday's uber-spirited blog, I figured we could all use a break.

Or at least a laugh.

Check out this infomercial for the Hawaii Chair, a revolutionary new way to sculpt beautiful, sexy abs. (Did that sound genuine or what?)

You gotta see it to believe it.

The infomercial claims that the "repetitive circular movements of the hula" can help "create beautifully fit and trim abs."

"It takes the 'work' out of your 'workout.'"

Uh, yeah, sure.

Oh, these folks are SO serious. And that, in itself, makes me laugh. Digg called it the "worst workout machine ever." And The Consumerist said this chair "freaked us out."

Ditto.

Thank GOD for Ellen Degeneres, who demonstrated the Hawaii Chair on a recent show. Watch it here.

I don't know about sculpting rock-hard abs. But I did laugh pretty hard. That's a workout, right?

(Special thanks to Nathan who sent me this clip!)

Well it is Friday, and after going back through and reading all the postings that occurred after I left my office, I am amazed.

In any event, everyday you turn on the tv there is always some new exercise equipment, that promises to make you look like a super model or body builder. The crazy thing is that there is someone out there who buys it thinking this will be the answer to their prayers. I say Good Luck!

I wish all "The Daily Dish" bloggers a fantastic weekend. I myself will be enjoying the amazing city that I am fortunate enough to live in with my family, weather may be a drag, but Chicago is my home and I LOVE IT! Aloha! from the Cuz

I hope the Hawaii Chair comes with a coupon for "Preparation H"!? This one is going to be hard on the okole!

Cat, thanks for the shout out and knowing your sense of humor, had a hunch you would feel the same way about this thing as I did. While it may serve some kind of purpose, to call it a "Hawaii" chair that's designed around our beloved hula is disgusting. I couldn't resist myself either and had to share my two cents about it on my blog too. Keep up the good work and have a great weekend.

I'm looking for a tie-in to today's topic: one, my topic is light and enjoyable and, two, Cat mentioned a teddy bear at the end of yesterday's heated blog. OK, there is a teddy bear in Manoa Valley Theatre's new production of "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change." More than that, the participants in "The Daily Dish" will love this hilarious, insightful romp about RELATIONSHIPS between men and women.

i saw that video for the hula chair on the Ellen show a couple of weeks ago and like you said, laughed so hard i thought i was gonna fall off my chair!!! honestly who believes that kinda stuff?? i started a hula class back in september...my intent was to first-get back to my roots and second-work on getting a "hula dancers" body. well its been like 6 mos and no where near the hula dancer body...and thats the real thing!! as for that chair...you could use it as a ride at a kiddie carnival!!

G4TV's Attack of the Show! showed this device as well. And Kevin Perreira and Lisa Mun (the hosts of the show) tried it out -- that thing REALLY moves your hips; folks who've had surgery on the hips or who have hip problems probably shouldn't use that chair.

Looks fun . . . and looks like can give your midsection a good workout (sitting down, heh).

And I was thinking the same thing Opso says above, heh.

So right about yeaterdays blog... it rocked! Thanks again to
Chicago Cuz and
Robin for making the day exciting. Oh yeah, and
Chicken Grease for those super loooooong post ;^)

Like Jusamee and M I can't view this video on my work comp but I seen it through an email that was floating around. Funny stuff. Ellen makes it more funny just because I always imagine her as Dori for Nemo. hah.

BTW, finally....CAT has come back with FOOD pics. Hurry cause lunch is soon.

Honestly, if you need a core sorta workout at work, just get one of those stability balls and replace your work chair with it. Sitting all day on a big ball keeping your balance does wonders for your middle. Sure it won't melt fat, but you'll have a stronger center.

I'll 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) the FOOD picks (why are we spelling it "FUUD"? I keep thinking of Elmer Fudd when I see "food" spelled like "fuud")!

Something nice and friggin' greasy (chicken grease!!! No, that's a R&B/funk reference!), stuff drippin' off, with some equally evil side order and a tall frosty glass of something, you know?

That was hilarious!! I hope people don't really associate that chair with "Hawaii," though! Looks like it would be fun to try, but I don't know about working out my abs (I could have sworn that man on the video didn't say "abs"... !) on that thing.

Thanks for the laugh, Cat! It's a great start for the weekend! Enjoy the weekend, everyone!

(Next stop... FUUD pix! Chicken Grease... now you've got me thinking about Garlic Chicken!!)

FUUD pics are up!

Why does our state have to get associated with the most hideous infommercial product out there?
I guess we are Spesho like that.
I know they call it Hawaii because of the hula, but why not pick on other states like:

Alabama Awesome Abs
or
Wisconsin Workout Chair
or
Texas Tight Core

It gave me a laugh for a second. And then I realized that Hawaii & hula is getting exploited, again. The info-mercial is using the term hula but, are showing clips of the Tahitian dance that will give you killer abs if you start early (like in your teens) & continue until menopuase or "mid-life crisis" sets in. As a former polynesian dancer, any legit exercise routine will have to have some sweat! NO pain, no gain! The trick is finding something that is fun & fits your lifestyle.

BWAHAHAHA!

Jeez, Cat, thanks for the laff!

Jim walked all the way across the newsroom just to tell me to look at this.

Horrifying, indeed, the way the makers once again have sought to plunder hula's dignified heritage.

So it just increases the laugh / stupidity factor when you look at the informercial.

P.S. Yer missed over here.

And of course I feel like yelling at the infomercial actors: Hello! That's not hula! That's Tahitian!
