Family Tree
When she's not being a reporter, Treena Shapiro is busy with her real job, raising a son and daughter. Constantly on the hunt for child-rearing tips, family-friendly activities and amusing anecdotes, she'll share the best and the worst here and encourages you to do the same. Getting ready to be gone

Once upon a time, preparing for a flight meant picking a good book and buying a pack of gum.

Now it’s all about making sure that the media players are charged and loaded, that the Gameboys both have games and the chargers have all been packed.

The charger situation is so ridiculous that I’m packing a surge protector, just in case there aren’t enough outlets in the hotel room.

It’s so much to keep track of that I’ve barely started packing the important stuff, like clothes and shoes.

That said, I’ve got a lot to do before the kids and I get on the plane tomorrow.

I’ll be back to regular posting next Thursday.

Ohhh, have fun! Keep sane and get enough rest time. I hope you return with photos to post. I just love to see other people's travels vicariously since I don't get to travel much. I'm so germ/bacteria/virus conscious lately ...so pack along those sanitary wipes and wash your's and your kids hands every chance you get. Am I being overly cautious or wot?

What! No blow-by-blow pix updates while on your trip?
Like hemajang said, we look forward to vacationing vicariously thru you bloggers.

That's okay. You and the kids have a fun and safe trip.

ditto on the hand sanitizers and wipes. Buy some when you get to your next destination. Be advised that the cabin pressure of most airlines are kept at 8,000 ft. level, so if you have someone with breathing problems,I suggest that your physician orders you oxygen for the flight. It costs around $100.00 per leg. Other than these precautions, have fun...

Wow lau-lau, where you guys going?
I'm one of those electronic gadget geeks too. I gotta bring my ipod, cell phone, ds lite, laptop, camera, and all the little things to make them all work. That's the part that makes traveling hard, keeping track of all the little things and lugging them around. Of course, if they made the iPhone with 120gb and a little cheaper then maybe I wouldn't need so much.

make a checklist and check mark something as you pack...that way you'll know if you got everything!! i hate being bored on the plane, but don't wanna risk losing any of my more expensive stuff...so i normally just pack a book and a word find book...i know old school, but like i said i don't wanna risk losing anything. however...i'm hoping the itouch also gets more memory and i'll get one of those for my bday...then i'll take that along with me!

have fun and take lots of pix and video to post when you come back!!

I'll 2nd everyone's good wishes, above.

Have a great time with your family, Tree. You deserve it!!!!

P.S. oh, yeah, heh, from the last blog. Not Family Circle (which is a magazine, right), but, Family Circus is the name of the comic strip/whatever.

Ahhh, people after my own heart! Hand sanitizers, wet ones, Airborne, chargers... all on my checklist!! It's hard to remember what you're doing, let alone remember what you're packing, when there are kids around. Plus, you have to remember things for everyone else, on top of that! At any rate, hope you are able to relax and have a GREAT VACATION! Looking forward to hearing about your trip when you get back!
