Man, was it storming last night!
I probably didn't get much more than half an hour of sleep last night, with all the winds and rain pounding our upstairs unit.
When I got up this morning, the neighborhood was drenched and littered with palm fronds and other debris. A few portable toilets at the corner of Hawai'i Kai Drive and Kalaniana'ole Highway were knocked over. But that's about it.
I took the roundabout way to work this morning to shoot some photos of some areas in town.
Here's what my commute looked like:

Traffic on Kalaniana'ole Highway wasn't too bad. Just the usual slowdowns.

Certain areas along the highway were flooded, but nothing major. No signals were out, thankfully.

I decided to get off the highway and take the backroads to work. Bad idea! The lights at the corner of Wai'alae and Kilauea avenues were out, and police were routing vehicles to detours.

There was a downed tree on 'Elepaio Street in Kahala. We couldn't get through that street to Diamond Head Road because of flooding; we all had to turn around and find another route.

This tree on 22nd Avenue barely survived the high winds last night.

Portable toilets on the marathon route were knocked around. Hope no one was in them!

Here's the surf at Diamond Head this morning. No one was out. I don't blame them!

I gotta give credit to everyone who braved the weather this morning. I surprised at the number of people running, biking and walking around Diamond Head and Waikiki. Kudos to you!

This tree on Diamond Head Road hung on!

There weren't any major rock and/or mud slides along the road this morning. This was all I saw.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this: a tree entirely uprooted at Kapi'olani Park!

At first, I saw it from behind. But from the front, with the roots exposed, the damage was very impressive.

Here's an up-close look at the roots.

The streets around Kapi'olani Park were a mess. Lots of debris and puddles. Didn't help that for some folks it was garbage day. Cans were knocked over and trash strewn on sidewalks and streets.

The south winds mucked up Waikiki. Here's a shot of Queen's this morning.

Here's a sight you don't see too often: Waikiki — empty.
