The Warrior Beat
Stephen Tsai knows University of Hawai'i sports, down to the last decimal of a 40-yard dash. He's lived UH sports since 1987. Few reporters get the inside information like he does. What Tsai writes is a daily must read.

Adam Leonard chat; Sunday musings

Linebacker Adam Leonard was today's chat guest.
HIs Q & A session is in the comments section.

* * *

Except for an afternoon meeting, the players had most of the day free. Many chose to leave campus, which is understandable. The players are in their 10th day in the dance studios, with 50 people to a room.
Of course, some have adjusted well.
Calvin Roberts, who starts practicing tomorrow, studied the playbook.
Jett Jasper woke up from a deep slumber to find a large crowd exiting the Stan Sheriff Center. "What's going on?" Jasper asked.
He was told that UH conducted its summer graduation ceremony.

* * *

Defensive coordinator Greg McMackin said he plans to give extended work to cornerbacks Keenan Jones, Jakeem Hawkins and Roberts tomorrow. "We need to see what they can do," McMackin said.
McMackin praised defensive backs coach Rich Miano for helping the players make the transition to a new defensive system.
"Rich is one of the best," McMackin said.

* * *

While the football players are housed in the dance studios, the women's volleyball team is staying in an air-conditioned unit in the Stan Sheriff Center.
Let's say some campers are happier than others.

* * *

It turns out McMackin is really a nice guy. Because Ron Lee manages the Outrigger Main Show room, McMackin asked to take Lee's turning monitoring the players at night.

* * *

Nice guys sometimes finish first.
There was a time when "Al" was always the first to post.
And while he has relinquished that title, he still is one of the leaders in wisdom and patience. I used to say that this blog natually corrects itself when discussions get out of hand. OK, that's not necessarily so. Many times it is Al's level-headed reasoning that reminds us why we're all here: a mutual interest in UH sports.
Evan Dobelle once spoke of the common-sense test. Al, if given it, probably would score an A-plus. Mostly the exam would be administered at lunch, with his group of new online friends.
Here's Al, in his own words:

"Who am I? I am just a guy who is very passionate about the University of Hawai‘i athletic programs. In particular, the Warrior football team. “Growing up as a child” my first job was selling football lineups at the old Termite Palace at the age of 8 years old. I lived but a half block from the stadium. I must have attended every event there. The then University of Hawai‘i Rainbows must have been a Division III program, but, to a little kid those football players were huge. To this day, I can recall when two of my favorite Rainbows gave me their chinstraps at the last game of the season. They were Nolan George, a local boy running back, and end Cliff Orgraine. They came through with their promise of, “wait till the season is over and you can have em.” I have been hooked ever since then.

"I have spent 20 years trying to help kids live out the dream of being an athlete having coached our youth in various sports such as basketball, flag football, soccer, and baseball. I recently retired from that and now do volunteer work with the Angel Tree ministry at New Hope Christian Fellowship - Oahu.

"Did someone say “food”? I am also passionate about food. In my former life I was a food and beverage manager for 26 years working with the old Spencecliff Corporation and the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base. I still love to cook and eat. However, some years ago I “retired” from that stuff and now am a self-employed retirement advisor. I help people retire comfortably.

"My real name is “al” and recently Princess Leila revealed my last name on her blog bash video. The “boss” and I have been married for 32 years and we have three kids. The eldest is my daughter at 29 years old, followed by two sons 27 and 19. The boys still call home “home” although the baby is at college in the bay area. We have always had dogs, in particular yellow labs.

"Please join us for one of our bashes or ‘cattle calls,"that would be a lunch date with the guys (and women are invited, too). The next cattle call is being organized by “homey” next week. Be there!"

Really enjoyed your approach style for the bio, along with Garrets, Homeys, and Teds.
You are all very unique in your own life, yet everyone here shares a bond for the state of Hawaii and it's sports program.
Do you still have those chinstraps? I was able to experience that same feeling while living next to Colorado St. Univ. at the age of 9 for one year. Lawerence McCutchin, who went on playing for the L.A. Rams was attending school there at the time, and went out of his way to spend time with me to talk.
Special moments in our keiki days that will be logged in our memory till the final days.

Which school is your youngest attending in the Bay Area?

haha Al, you didn't write anything we don't already know about you. Amazing, isn't it, how one's life spills effortlessly into the blog as one leaves comments?

You really should consider publishing a cookbook. You seem to have so many recipes. Insert some of your ideas for wise and happy living that you have gleaned from your own experiences.

I especially liked your suggestion that we take a trip to Poipu, Kauai to recharge our batteries. We did and had a wonderful time.

Keep up the good work!

One of the things that keeps me coming back to this blog is the abundance of good people who post here. Al tops that list. Having met and become friends with him, I can honestly say that Brother al is one of the finest people I have ever known. His "other orientedness" is off the scale as you can see by his bio and is coupled with the great strength of a quiet leader.

I am blessed to have a friend like you al. Here's to many more years of great blogging with you, brother.

the starting lineup turned out to be Carey-Mormino-Satele-Hadnot-Alabi. That's actually what I expected to eventually see as the starting lineup, but I've been told the team wanted to send a message to Hadnot to make sure he wasn't taking his position for granted. Mormino's shift to the left side shouldn't be problematic, since he has experience of being a versatile linemen from college. As for wondering whether they can be effective enough? Hmmm. That's the money question. And after Saturday, I continue to be very, very skeptical.

This positive note about Miami's draft class doesn't even mention how well Reagan seems to be doing, as the other picks are getting on the field so quickly.
Q: Jeff, from what I've read this looks like it may end up being one of the most productive dolphin draft classes since I can remember. Satele looks to be a starter along with Brandon Fields. Let's assume Ginn starts as a returner, Booker as 3rd down back, & Beck is developing this year. Can you break down the rest for me on who you think will be able to play from this class & your overall thoughts on this draft.
Steve, Dayton, Ohio 8/10/07
A: You're right, Steve. This does look like it's shaping up to be a very important draft class. And it should also drive home another point: It's so critical to pile up as many picks as possible. It's no coincedence that the year the Dolphins manage to grab a bunch of players who can contribute also happens to be a year when they had more picks that usual. Along with the players you mentioned, I think we could also see some production from Drew Mormino (at left guard) and Abraham Wright (at defensive end). To get playing time from a couple of late picks like Wright and Mormino would be huge. And it certainly drives home your point about this having the potential to be one of the most productive classes.

Aloha bruddah Al,

My imaginary online friend turned into a "true friend". We used to walk down memmory lane on the midnight shift. I really enjoyed that...talking about old times and UH football way back when. I have never been so touched in my life to have complete strangers care about my COPD condition and wanting to meet me in person like those found on the Warrior Beat. Thank you Stephen Tsai for this awesome blog! After many months of struggling to get well enough to meet people in person I finally met Al and SteveM in person at lunch at a Korean buffet lunch in Kailua--Enchanted Lakes. You could not have asked for any more generous and caring people like those two guys. I brought along the boss to meet them and she came away with nothing but kudos for them. Al also helped me out in another situation and I thank him very much for that. He is a modest guy and always wears a big smile and words of wisdom. Al...the quiet leader...you are da Man! Mahalo and Aloha...

Philly has made their playing time plans for tomorrow's preseason game. I guess Tony Hunt is filling the "big RB" role that Philly focused on in the draft with Hunt and Nate.

On whether there are any young players he wants to see playing with the ones: "You'll see [RB] Tony [Hunt] probably run with the ones a little bit if we get into goal line short-yardage situations, we'll see how he fits into that package.

Well, Miami really doesn't plan to throw to their FBs that much, the main job of their FBs is to be a lead blocker on runs, pass block, and pick up the 3-and-1s and 4-and-1s. Lorenzo Neal did this perfectly in San Diego...

Philly had amazing fan interest this camp!

The Eagles set a new record for fan attendance at training camp with 139,123 between July 28 and August 11.

"We talk a lot about our uniquely passionate fan base," said Mark Donovan, senior vice president of business operations. "The average of 10,000 people each day traveling to watch practice is another reason we believe Eagles fans are the best in the NFL. The players, coaches and entire organization appreciate all our fans do to support us."

Donovan also said that the live webcast shows from training camp had an average of 16,470 viewers each day. Unique visitors to the Eagles' web site, numbered about 117,000 per day.

We've seen how productive Nate can be on screen passes...I'm glad that he's been able to show that in Philly's camp.
As the seventh round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, Ilaoa is hoping Philadelphia and the Eagles will be a permanent stop. So far in camp, the stocky 5-foot-9, 245-pound back, has managed to draw some applause from the fans at Lehigh with his ability to catch the ball. During last Sunday’s workout, Ilaoa took a couple of big screen passes and turned them into big gains.

“I don’t really know what my chances are. All I can do is go out there and perform and that decision is not on me,” Ilaoa said. “But I have a lot to do with what the decision may be and that’s why I take on my half to work hard and make sure I know what I’m doing.”
In a camp full of running backs, Ilaoa is trying to make his impression on the Birds’ coaching staff. One thing that bodes well for the 24-year-old back is his ability to catch the football, something a running back must do in head coach Andy Reid’s version of the West Coast offense.

“I was a receiver throughout college until my last two years when I started playing running back, so catching the football is something I’m accustomed to and it’s something that I feel I can do pretty well. I try to use that to the best of my ability and hopefully that stands out with the coaching staff.”

“Very good feet. He’s highly productive, both in the pass and the run game,” said Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Morhinweg. “I believe he rushed for over 900 (yards) and caught a bunch of balls there at Hawaii. That would be the main thing, his productivity in both the running and passing game.”

And its one thing to spend your day checking out practice. But your vacation? Just ask John Matthews of Tacoma, Washington.

I think practice is different, period, with coach Mac's approach with being disciplined. We even have to line up in a huddle a certain way.
We're not having a hard tine geting up for Norhtern Colorado. Our goal is to win the WAC and be undefeated. In order to do that we have to play one game at a time.

What's your major? How far along are you towards getting your degree? And, are you taking any business/financial planning classes?

I think you'll need it with all the $$$ you'll be making at the next level!

My major is economics. I don't know how close I am to getting my degree. I just switched it from business because that was going to take a while. I've been taking accounting courses.

Adam it sounds like a lot of the returning tackles on defense have slimmed down and gotten quicker to better suit the 4-3. How do they look? Are they hitting as hard as last year?

The defensive tackles look great, some of them better than me. Really, we haven't gotten an opportunity to see how hard they hit, considering we haven't had the opportunity to hit. But as far as our scheme is concerned, and our plays, they look great on film.

I avoid Spam at all costs. I actually was eating Spam and ham sandwiches the summers before I came to Hawaii (in 2005), and he was from Alabama. I never was a big fan, but I worked construction with him and he would make it so I had to eat it.

adam,

When did you know that LB was the position you were meant to play?

My freshman year in high school. I originally played running back all through little league (pop warner). But my freshman year we had two senior all-state running backs and Nate Robinson, who is playing for the New York Knicks, was also in there. My coaching staff wanted me to play so they put me at linebacker.
Leila's note: Adam was an all-conference linebacker all three years before getting injured his senior year. He was a league defensive MVP his sophomore and junior years.

Sol: He is quick and very competitive. He hates to get beat by anybody.
Blaze: Exactly what his name is, a blaze. He is extremely strong and fast and he will hit anybody.
Brad: A Power Ranger. That's what we call him. He's just an athlete.
Timo: He's athletic as well and he has a great mind for football.
Brashton: Big and fast. The only thing holding him back is he's been having the injury bug.
Rustin: A smart player that reads linemen very well.
R.J.: A beast. He's been having a good camp, and he moved up to second team joker in our okie package, for passing situations.
Josh Rice: Very competitive. He has a big heart.
Micah: Very quick and he's a smart football player.
The young guys (Pookela Ahmad, Kevin Konrath and Mana Lolotai) are picking up the playbook pretty well. They'll do much better once they don't have to think about what they're doing.

Unfortunately, the MGM-Mirage corporate policy does not allow any "perks" to parents/immediate family of all employees - rooms, meats, etc. including having players cards - employees are told at the beginning of their orientation meeting of no perks and no "pay-off" on all large jackpots - it's their way of keeping the "house clean".

inside lurker,

I was a season ticket holder for 27 years to UH football, including 13 years were I lived on the mainland and gave away my 2 seats to UH football fans who might not otherwise have been able to afford to go to the games.

My parents have been tickets since the termite palace days, plus they have had 3 season ticket seats to UH basketball for decades.

Why do people have to continually say that they are season ticket holders to prove their loyalty? I've mentioned my season ticket situation on this blog and others have too.

Hey Guys, Great to hear about everyone's background. It's funny because a long time ago I kept mentioning that for UH to compete for top notch recruits a summer camp was necessary. Many people on the blog took it as an insult the recruits that we already had. Now that we do have a camp we can all see the impact that it's having. Coaches can work with recruits at a younger age and build relationships. Just my two cents.

MY WEB SITE PHOTO PAGE TO CHANGE

Sheese--welcome me to the 21st century. I was getting disc quota errors trying to add more stuff to my little Tsai-ko web site above. How can, I got a 5 gigabytes of free web site space on the Road Runner server, don't I? Nope -- 5 MEGAbytes and if I want more, it'll cost another 99 cents per megabyte.

Shades of 1995, when 5 megabytes was plenty in the days before javascripts, movies, Flash, etc.. So, if I pay around $60 a year more to Road Runner (5 MB x $.99 x 12 months), I can bump up my site to 10 megabytes.

I'm not the only one in the past decade. Even without Jason to do the math, I can see: 10 megabytes of space where I am for $60 a year. Join something like .Mac for $99 a year and get 10 GIGAbytes of disc space and a ton of neat features. Spacewise, that is 1,000 times more space for $40 more.

I'm not going to change web site host right. But the modern "Photos" page is using 90% of my paltry 5 megabyte server capacity. If I revert back to my plainer 1995 web design ways, I can still show all pictures and recover around 60% of my disk quota. Then I can add more stuff.

So-- the Photo page will be unavailable while I redo the web pages. Everything else will work as usual. Sorry for the inconvenience.

About the Miami game.

During a halftime TV interview, Cameron ripped the offensive line. When LT Vernon Carey left the game on the first play on the third series after he twisted his knee, the O-line featured three rookies - C Samson Satele, G Drew Mormino and LT Julius Wilson - and a third-year player without an NFL start - RT Anthony Alabi.

Peyton Manning might have had happy feet behind that group, especially against Jacksonville.

The Jaguars have one of the league’s best pairs of DTs, Marcus Stroud and John Henderson.

Satele and Mormino looked like they didn’t know what him them. Neither did RB Ronnie Brown, who had eight yards on eight carries and got nailed a few times.

Miami has a short week to fix things, with their next game on Thursday. However, they at least face a less formidable D.
If Green and the revamped offensive line don’t show significant improvement, there will be a lot of questions and concerns for good reason.

The Dolphins won’t face a defense nearly as strong up front, so Green should have a little more time to find receivers and Brown should have a little more room to run.

brew808,

Ha! I try to stay out of the photos because my wife and kids are much better looking.

Lori uses blogspot but I use wordpress and both are good. I believe that wordpress can link to external albums just like blogspot. Both wordpress and blogspot have some things that the other one doesn't have, so it doesn't pay to switch.

My work blog had to be wordpress because I needed to password protect it. I've been happy with wordpress, so I used it when I did my Warriorquotes blog too.

I just booked my hotel reservation for the San Jose game...can't wait! Top 5 reasons why I wanted to go to the game:

1. Of course I want to see every Warrior game I can!

2. This will be the first "scary" game of the season to me. Road game vs. Tomey, who will have SJSU ready. The previous 6 games on paper don't seem as difficult as this game, so the team might have to adjust to another level of competition.

3. I might get to see the game with one of the Tsaikos here that I really want to get a chance to talk with. Plus, meet up with lots of others before or after the game.

4. I want to add to the UH faction at the game, try to do my part at getting the crowd to be as pro-UH as possible. Did I mention that I think this game will be much harder than the first 6 games?

5. Lori and I have lots of friends in the area, so she won't mind coming along. This way I won't have the guilt of leaving my wife and kids behind.

it is a given that nevada, fresno state, boise st, and san jose st are the scary games. oh, and add in new mexico state as well.

the wac has gotten stronger because of the aforementioned teams and us.

i am trying to squeeze that sjst game in if i can. the son would join us too. we'll see.

it will be interesting because like the kid said. tomey has extra incentives. after all he did apply for the ad job here and according to some sources he was told that his selection was a lock.

Tomey and Co. have a few competitive games to start, then a reasonably soft schedule in the middle that they can use to prepared for the Warriors! There is a chance that they enter the game 6-0, or 5-1 against a 6-0 Warrior Team. Yup – should be a good game, and good test.

You say that like it's already guaranteed that we're going to lose a game. Then again, there are those that talk about an undefeated season like it's guaranteed. The truth of the matter is, you gotta play one game at a time. Before we can think about San Jose State or Nevada, we need to deal with Northern Colorado.

Just finished changing the "Photo" subdirectory in the Tsai-Ko web site. I did gain back 3 MB of the allotted 5 MB. Sorry-- no built -in slide show and thumbnails anymore, but all the large size pictures are there. Some pages have the same name so you might have to clear your browser cache and/or reload if you go back there soon.

Will have a few more pix from Blog Bash 2 soon on a separate page. Then maybe more simple pages... ;-)

Thanks for the info on alternatives. I debated using one, but rationalized I would not many pix to show so could handle. Cameras make some people nervous so I don't usually carry one. I certainly don't need a blog and a small web site to consolidate key info is adequate with me... Thanks for the thoughts and suggestons.

The dotmac alternative looked really good. I shunned it after Apple started to charge for it a few years back. I could envision the OFFICIAL Warrior Beat web site, photo, and groupware center being hosted there and administered by ST and/or Princess Leila. About Miami's offense.

Second-round pick Samson Satele, who has spent most of the offseason as the center with the first unit, said there is room for improvement.

"We could do a lot better," he said. "I don't know if we did anything bad or good, but we could do a lot better than what we did."

Carey's loss robbed the offensive line, which recently saw Mormino switched to left guard to allow Hadnot to rejoin the first unit, of some cohesion.

"Vernon is the best O-Linemen we've got," Satele said. "Julius did a good job when he came in. At one point, we had three rookies in there with the first squad. I think we handled ourselves better. Rex gave us points, and [right tackle Anthony] Alabi was helping everyone else."

"I never like seeing my quarterback get hit like that, get sacked like that," Satele said.

"But, we'll get it down. I told him we'll try not to let you get touched as much this season."
Permalink 08/12/07 @ 21:26
Rookie fullback Reagan Mauia forgot to work back and outside of Green when the quarterback ducked under a potential sack and was scrambling for his life around the 8-yard line.

Green got the pass off but it fell behind Mauia and near the sideline -- exactly where the rookie should have been.
Permalink 08/12/07 @ 21:27
"Frustrating? You do get that at times, but I wouldn't say it's overly frustrating," Green said. "Cam and I talk quite a bit about the adjustment everyone, including myself, has to make for things to go right."

The coach and quarterback discuss how Green, who has played in Cameron's system practically his entire career, is understandably thinking several steps ahead of other players because they're learning the offense for the first time.

Tampa wants to have one person return both kicks and punts. Their first choice is Mark Jones, who has been their punt returner for the past 2 seasons. However, Tampa had the 3rd-worst punt return average in the NFL with Jones the returner, so why is he a great choice to do punt and kick returns?

Enter receiver Mark Jones.

The Bucs see him as perhaps the leading candidate to address the problem, finally allowing them to designate the same player as a punt and kickoff returner. Players in multiple roles allow teams more roster flexibility.

"We're looking for a guy who can do a dual role," coach Jon Gruden said. "We don't want to have it where it's, 'Okay, you just snap. You just hold. You just return punts. You just return kicks.'

Jones is the most likely to accomplish the goal, though others such as Chad Owens will get a look. He has been the primary punt returner the past two seasons, but is trying to add kickoffs to his repertoire. He fielded his first kick Friday against the Patriots, though he caught it in the end zone for a touchback.

Tokyo is expensive if you let it be. If you insist on eating at fancy sit down restaurants where you are served by a waiter, etc. then the costs of food alone can wipe you out. On the other hand if you are willing to eat really good food at more simple places, then it is definitely doable. The big costs of a trip are always airfare, hotel, and ground transportation. Once those are locked in, everything else is discretionary.

funny that the language barrier never bothered me when I traveled alone around the world after college. I lived in Thailand for 10 months teaching English to Thai students. Toured Europe and lived in Germany too without knowing the languages.

So why does Japan scare me?

Gigi, if you are into cultural artifacts, then you MUST go to Kyoto, a 2.5 hour shinkansen ride from Tokyo. There are more UN Cultural heritage sites there than anywhere else in the world as far as I know.

I hear Tokyo is very expensive. I wish I could afford a group tour, but we want to conserve our savings. Having Jason along would help because of the language barrier. Jason would need to bring another person to qualify for the double occupancy rate.
Hmm, I better find someone fluent in Japanese to accompany me, then... ;-)

Nah, I'm just joking around. I agree with everyone else, three days sounds pretty short.

Gigi, I do not read or speak Japanese. Navigating on the shinkansen is easy. Tokyo is much more difficult iwth the combination of trains and subways and the stations themselves can be difficult to navigate when you transfer from one line to another. But it is doa-able, especially for someone who I'm presuming has ridden the NYC subways, the London Tube or the Paris Metro.

Gigi,

I don't think a VISA is required for Japan...but you do need a passport. I was there during Cherry Blossom season...late March...beautiful time to be in Japan.
Japan is expensive but the Yen is 118 to 1USD which is more than what we got when we were in Japan in '04 (110Y). We went with a local travel agecny as a group of 13 couples and had a great time. We covered all of Kyushu Island plus stops on Shikoku and Honshu Island, ending in Kyoto. We did not get to Tokyo on this 14 day tour. There's a shorter 9 day tour which covers the central part of Honshu Island from Tokyo to Kyoto. That would be the ideal itinerary for first timers with limited vacation time. Of course this is more expensive than the short 3-night tour you mentioned. IMO, 3 nights is cutting it a bit too close to really do justice for making that long trip to Japan. You might just end up seeing Tokyo and miss out on seeing Mt. Fuji, etc. Maybe you can tack on a few more days to the 3 nighter you're thinking about. That might be a better deal for you and hubby.

A small congregation of Filipinos with the International Bible Fellowship rents out a couple rooms, I attend those services. Everyone knows each other -- mainly cause everyone is pretty much related to each other, haha. We're slowly growing, sometimes people pop in cause they see the church sign outside (that's how I found the church). I've invited the gigis to come, they're always welcome, and I extend that invite to anyone in the Salt Lake area reading this. We have services on Sunday morning at 9 (closer to 9:30), Sunday evenings at 6:30 (closer to 7), and Wednesday evening prayer services at 7 (closer to 7:30). About the struggles of Miami's offense.

Yes, the first team offense struggled. Yes, the offensive line looked out of sync. Yes, Trent Green could sustain very little. But what did you really expect? Cam Cameron did not game plan for Jacksonville, did not put in a third down package, did not prepare his offense in any way for one of the top defenses in the league and, by his own admission, had installed only about 40 percent of his offense.

As much as I would have liked to have seen a long, impressive touchdown drive out of the first group, I have learned never to make too many judgments about preseason games, certainly not the first preseason game. This offense clearly has a long way to go, but there is plenty of time before the season starts and you get the feeling that Cameron knows exactly what he’s doing. We’ll soon find out.
Permalink 08/13/07 @ 04:50
I like the mention of Samson here. I also noted that the other 2 rookies weren't praised.
Am I concerned about the offensive line, which used three rookies with the first team after Vernon Carey went down with a (minor) knee injury? Sure I am. This remains perhaps the biggest question mark on the team. But I can tell you this: I like Samson Satele at center and I like the idea of playing so many rookies, especially with the best offensive line teacher in the business in Hudson Houck. I have believed from the beginning that the team’s fortunes could very well rest on how well this offensive line comes together and I have not wavered in that belief.

Edmonton really dared Maas to throw in their last game, but Hamilton couldn't take advantage.

Maciocia said the Eskies crowded the line of scrimmage to blunt the run, virtually daring the Ticats to throw the ball.

When Maas opted to throw, he faced heat. And the Cat passer tried just once to spread the Edmonton defence by throwing long, but overthrew slotback Brock Ralph.

"We just said to them 'you want to pull it from Jesse and throw it, that's fine with us,'" Maciocia said, adding the strategy convinced Hamilton to get away from the run.

But the beat-up Eskies, missing four starters, stacked the line of scrimmage to stymie the Cat rushing attack. And for the most part it worked. Cat runner Jesse Lumsden was limited to 38 yards on eight carries. But Lumsden did add 62 yards on two screen passes.

"Huge," Edmonton head coach Danny Maciocia said of his club's efforts to curb the Hamilton run game. "If you don't shut down 28 (Lumsden) they are going to win the battle for possession. We loaded up the box and said 'OK, it's your guys against our guys and let's get after it,'" he said.
