Cornerback Ryan Mouton has received clearance to join the Warriors.
"I'm so happy, said Mouton, a four-star cornerback from Blinn College. "It's been tough the past week and a half. But it was better to get everything cleared up now than later.
Mouton underwent medical tests today. He said he needs to fill out "more paperwork" before he will be allowed to practice. He said he hopes to practice tomorrow.
"I can't wait to get out there," Mouton said.
In accordance with NCAA rules, Mouton said, he cannot be in pads for his first two practices.
Here's Princess Leila's video interview with Mouton:

Today is the first day of full pads.
Except for switching from shorts to pants, I'm not exactly sure how full pads is different from practicing with shoulder pads.
9:07 a.m. — Calvin Roberts is practicing, and according to my co-workers who are much smarter, his footwork is outstanding.
Laupepa Letuli is not in pads. He's jogging on the soccer field, where the offense is practicing. He is recovering from a hamstring injury.
ESPN is shooting practice. More specifically, they're shooting Colt Brennan practice.
9:15 a.m. — Solomon Elimimian, who is sufferering from a tweaked hamstring, is attending practice, but is not in uniform. He's standing next to Blaze Soares, who is in uniform but not wearing pads. At least the third starting linebacker, Adam Leonard, is practicing.
9:20 a.m. — Cornerback Ryan Perry also isn't pracicing. He's walking around with a towel on his head.
9:23 a.m. — Defensive coordinator Greg McMackin is coaching the cornerbacks today. Today's practice corners are: Myron Newberry, Gerard Lewis, Calvin Roberts, JoPierre (never J.P.) Davis, Guyton Galdeira, Jakeem Hawkins and Keenan Jones. Newberry and Lewis are wearing long shorts over their pants.
9:54 a.m. — I spoke too soon (and too often, apparently).
Princess Leila reports that Adam Leonard has stopped practicing and has changed to regular clothes.
9:55 a.m. — Liz Chun reports KGMB's UH football special will air Aug. 31 at 9 p.m. It's entitled: "Season of Great Expectations."
10:22 a.m. — We're now watching the most one-sided drill, one-on-ones between a receiver and defensive back. The receiver gets to use the entire field. Myron Newberry, a very quick cornerback, had no chance against Jason Rivers. Not with Colt Brennan throwing the pass.
Wait. I take it back. Rivers runs a streak pattern, and Newberry leaps to break up the pass.
10:37 a.m. — Team drills have started. The No.1 offensive line is left tackle Keith AhSoon, left guard Clarence "Lafu" Tuioti-Mariner, center Aaron Kia, right guard Larry Sauafea and right tackle Keoni Steinhoff.
Center John Estes is in full pads, but not participating in this drill.
11:10 a.m. — Erik Pedersen just slammed Joe Avery in the loudest hit of training camp.
11:11 a.m. — Pedersen's hit still is riinging in our ears.
11:15 a.m. — I think I'm watching an NFL practice. Cameron Allen-Jones is aligned as a tight end, serving as lead blocker for Leon Wright-Jackson on a sweep.
Colt Brennan just threw a play-action pass. That play just doesn't seem fair to a defense.

Disclaimer: It was the last days of the offseason, when players were more concerned about speed (running 220s) than power (lifting 225 pounds).
Here are the top five in the 225-pound bench press:
1. R.J. Kiesel Kauhani, linebacker — 40 reps (37 in the spring)
2. Brad Kalilimoku, linebacker — 39 reps (30 in spring)
3. David Veikune, defensive lineman — 33
4. Aaron Bain, slotback — 30 (29 in spring)
5. Karl Noa, defensive end — 29 (25 in spring)
Observations: The top two are coached by Cal Lee ... Four improved their marks from last spring ... Four are defensive players.
(I just realized my "observations" were duh, like when a basketball announcer says a four-point lead is a "two-possession game." I wish those brainiacs would tell us how many possessions are needed where there's a 26-point lead. But I digress.)

Defensive coordinator Greg McMackin said safety B.J. Fruean has the potential to be a playmaker. McMackin likened Fruean to Benny Blades.
Fruean, who weighs 230, said he needs to lose about five pounds.
He also said he never heard of Benny Blades.

Before there were mouthy know-it-all sportswriters writing blogs, there were humble and intelligent fans attending practices and sharing their observations and UH pictures with other fans. They did it on their own time — and dime — and, most of all, for the love of all things UH. They had online names like Isleboy and Nelson O and BowStock, and they spawned Web sites such as sportshawaii.com and rainbowsportsnetwork.com (now warriorsportsnetwork.com). And they broke stories — on recruiting, on injuries, etc. One of the pioneers was BigWave96744, who still spends his free time providing biographies of UH players culled from news reports and personal observations. Here's BigWave's autobiography:
Name: BigWave96744
Number: #1
Class: Senior
Position: SB
HT/WT: 6’ 0’’ / 225 lbs
College: UH Manoa, BS in ICS
Prep: CASO, I mean Castle High. Older and way less smarter than Garrett
Personal: Married to BigWaveWifey, One son (LittleWave), and one more in the forecast. Or as Guy Hagi would say, “Swell is coming in a few weeks”. In fact the way the summer has been going, NewWave will be here before any swell over 4 feet hits the South Shore
Fun Facts:
- #1 is my usual bball jersey number. It also represents the number of points per season, you can expect from me
- Entering my 4th year of Fatherhood, thus the Senior Class. No I’m not a Senior Citizen
- I had a dream that June would always see me at Practice. He told me I could walkon as a Slot Back if I completed the 220’s drills. With the team cheering me on I ran and ran and ran, and after completing one I puked and quit. So for now my position is “Sit Back” and watch from the Hill.
- I’m actually 5’4’’, 148 lbs but what’s few inches and pounds between friends
- UH Football fan since the 80’s watching Castle Boys Alvis Satele and Aui Fatisemanu. Season Ticket fan since June became coach.
- Forum Moderator of SportsHawaii.Com
- “Dave from Kaneohe” on KKEA and “BigWave” on KUMU
