'Lost' in Hawai'i

Advertiser writer Caryn Kunz first started watching "Lost" in college as a way to avoid studying. Like other Losties throughout the world, she hopes that the remainder of Season 3 will finally start to answer some burning questions, like what the heck is going on?

Lost premiere in Waikiki

Several bloggers have asked me about the status of this year's Sunset on the Beach premiere of Lost's Season 4.

I have some bad news: there isn't going to be one.

According to Rick Egged, president of the Waikiki Improvement Association, ABC and the Lost Production decided against any hooplah this year in light of the ongoing Hollywood writer's strike and consequent lack of a full 16-episode season this year.

Sunset on the Beach is still fun, though! While it won't be Lost, you can still enjoy the January lineup next weekend:

January 19: Shrek the Third
January 20: Championship highlight video (in conjunction with that evening's Parade of Champions, which will feature players of UH's Western Athletic Conference championship teams in football and women's soccer and volleyball, and the Division I and II high school football champions, Leilehua High and 'Iolani schools.)

There should be a good crowd for the Parade of Champions, and it'll be more than worth attending to support our great island athletes.

That said, now that there's no premiere (tear), is anyone planning to host a Lost party on the 31st? I'd love to know about it!

P.S. M-Rod was released today after serving just 10% of her court-ordered jail time. All I can say is that I hope it's taught her a little more respect for the people around her--but based on her past actions, I'm not holding my breath.

Just curious what we're called, your blog followers. Stephen's got the Tsai-kos, Cat's got her Dish-ers.

Are we the Lost-ies?
the Lost-ers?
the Lost-lovers...
wait, that last one doesn't sound right...

How about the Kunz-ies?
The Caryn-ians?

Heh, ok, I'm getting out of hand. I'll stop.

Lost didn't pull out of its creative nosedive until the last five minutes of the last episode last season, and that was with all the writers working. What chance does it have this season of not falling apart at the seams as it has threatened to do since the middle of the second season?

Tony,

Interestingly enough, the writers strike should help LOST initially. With all the TV viewers searching for something new and other than re-runs, I would expect the first two weeks of LOST airing to be fabulous. They got a new season, and a new day/timeslot as they desperately try to stabilize themselves. But yes, I think they have the same writers as before...not a real good sign.

The question of course is...what will they be rated by mid-March?

If they swoon again, and fall out of the top 20 rankings (and believe me, the studios DO pay attention to that fact), ABC will likely reconsider its commitment to the show.

They don't have to be in the top 5, in fact they don't have to be in the top 15! Finishing around 18th would be more than good enough.

Can they do it?

.

This writers strike sucks. I loved those sunset on the beach world premieres. Oh well I'm still looking forward to what I hope will be an awesome strike shortened season.
