Wassap Wit Dat!
You got the Cat...now here come da Dog! As much as wahine, kane can wala'au (talk story), although Lance Kwon admits their bark is usually bigger than their bite. We're letting Lance blog because he works in the accounting department and controls our money. So what's he blogging about? Anything and everything, from the male point of view!

Revenge...Not So Sweet

After reading the Sunday Advertiser (of course), the two stories that popped out was the ridiculous gas prices - which I predicted last year would go to $4 /gallon by summer this year - and the whacked out "suspicion" under the influence car wreckin' egg smashin' antics of four 17 year olds and an attorney.

Now I don't know about you but there are just too many things wrong with the latter story. First, what the heck are 17 year olds doing drinking? But more nerve wracking...DRIVING after that?!

Wassap Wit Dat?

How could they even think that that was ok to do? Couldn't any one of the four 'man up' and just say 'this ain't right'? They already think they're all grown up drinking - btw, whoever got them the drinks should be ashamed. Then in their "suspected" (innocent till proven guilty right?) stupor, they decide to egg some homes in Lanikai just cause they like?! I didn't even think that still went on in this day and age but I guess some would rather waste food instead of eating it.

But this time they got caught egging the home of a pissed off legally drunk adult. Mr.Jervis decided to take matters into his own hands and instead of calling the police, he followed them and rear ended the kids SUV up a HECO pole cable. How sweet it must have felt to do that but how stupid too! First, he's legally drunk. Then he drove. Then rammed his BMW (he must have some good insurance) into the SUV. Uh, dunno about you but none of the above looks right.

Sure he wanted to "teach" them a lesson but c'mon, people could have gotten seriously hurt. What if someone was taking a late night stroll and the last thing s/he saw was the headlights of a SUV or what if the kids didn't have their seat belts on and got thrown from the vehicle? What if the kids got into a 'beat you down' mood? It wouldn't have been pretty especially after everyone already had their share of "liquid courage".

Did I mention that Mr.Jervis is an attorney and a former Bishop Estate Trustee?

Here's another prediction - a lawsuit soon to follow. It doesn't matter that every single action of every single person was wrong, they all should end up paying one way or another - definetly not to each other...but to society.

First!

Good morning to all!
It's actually sad to read a story about that. Young adults risking the rest of their lives for some stupid "prank."

I think it comes down to 2 things. . . parenting and society.

Crazy world we live in. Lucky thing nobody died.

Noticed that Jervis is a lawyer specializing in "personal injury law." So he can represent himself right? Just making a funny, but I have a feeling this story isn't over yet...

Okay Lance, I admit to doing some stupid stuffs in my teen days and would have truly regret it if someone got hurt or arrested...and I thought I was a pretty good kid. However, what Jervis did was pretty out of control and inexcusable. I guess he never grew up. The Charles Bronson in him was waiting for a crime to happen. I think most would have called HPD but no, he had to take things in his own hand and do the vigilante thing. Although, I must admit again, that I feel like throwing my trash can in front of teens when they speed on my street...but that would be really dumb.

we all did dumb stuff growing up...when i think back to my own behavior i'm often embarrassed...and this is stuff not many people know about...thank goodness i won't have legal/media coverage to record it FOREVER!! lol...as for jervis...it might have felt like sweet revenge, but that few moments of vindication won't come near the headache he'll have to endure for who knows how long!!

I can understand both sides of the story. Kids will be kids, and Jervis will be Jervis.

You know the saying, "two wrongs don't make a right"

It's a good thing no one got seriously hurt. Then it would have been really ugly.

yeah when i read that one it was a shocker only because it's not something you typically hear of on a semi-regular basis...traffic accidents, violence in neighborhoods & schools, the ever-increasing price of gas (and pretty much everything for that matter)...sure but kids egging a house? while driving drunk? and then a homeowner flips and chases them and hits them with his car...oh by the way he's drunk. and they're St. Louis football players. it seemed like the more you read on, the more ridiculous it got.
i'm not saying that i was a completely innocent teenager but it has always amazed & disappointed me at how easy it is for minors to get alcohol, cigarretes and the like. no supervision eh?

Who's St. Louis's first opponents next season? They should get their empty egg cartons ready, heh.

Maybe, because of this particular incident and on account of his personal injury lawyah reputation, Jervis's rep' might be kinda' questionable now.

He's an officer of the court as well. He, of all people, is in a profession where they have to show (or at least not get caught going against) that the law works in our society. This doesn't bide well for him in this respect.

STILL, he, and those St. Louis students, are allowed their due process. We got an SUV up an electric wire or pole. We got a damaged, what is it Jervis was driving, a BMW? Just . . . what a mess.

Still, Jervis didn't deserve to be harrassed, IF that's what happened. And if it was a matter of high school students throwing eggs, well, that's pretty much textbook punk action, you know? Oh, eggs thrown at a house? WOW, how creative. Is THIS what St. Louis is teaching their kids nowadays; I don't mind asking that.

Ideally, both sides can say they were wrong in their actions and reactions (and, quite obviously, Jervis could've avoided making any apology at all if he didn't let those kids get -- well, the jury's still out [oh-HO, pardon the pun!] on whether you can blame the drink -- the best of him) and make nice-nice, avoid the whole lawsuit thing.

That nobody got seriously injured or worse is a blessing in this case.

Bishop Estate Trustee? Those kids going get rich.

Like many of the posters mentioned, kids will be kids. I remember getting into all sorts of trouble. Yah, I drank when I was under age. Lance, no tell me you nevah drank when you was little...oops...I mean underage. Haha. We've all done silly things when we were kids, especially highschool. Mr. Jervis on the other hand is one grown adult. A high-public grown adult. he should be able to make better decisions than that. It would have been better for him to get that license plate and call the police. Of course, I would be pissed too, but not to the point of attempted murder while under the influence. If anything, I would have got the doo-doo bags, then follow the kids home...Pau, nuff said.

Braddah Lance,
Here is a good defense for Jervis’ lawyer...”He (Mr. Jervis) was intoxicated because he was actually on his was to the gas station. Your honor, folks today need to be buzzed when they pump $4/gallon for gas.”

I guess these kids from St. Louis could afford to go joyriding. That trip across the island probably cost them at least $50 bucks. If I were their dad I would give them a good "gas" whooping just on the stupidity factor.

To make matter worse, they probably used premium AAA grade eggs.

Happened in our neighborhood a couple of years ago. A couple of guys with some girls in the back, throwing eggs out of their car. They must've been stupid enough to throw an egg at a couple in a car because a car chase ensued through our neighborhood.
The eggers whipped a turn too fast and ended up flipping their car into someone's yard. Car ended up on the roof with the people crawling out the back window.
The cops chided the victim for persuing the culprits. WWD?

I can't blame Jervis for going after them. These punks had it coming to them.

I'm sure we've all done things as teens that we look back on with shaking heads now. But I do agree that that was incredibly dangerous for both sides. I'm sure at 17, they did not think of the possible consequences, only about their own fun. It's a very selfish time, those teen years. Even worse to hear an adult making such a decision, but egg is really one of the nastiest things.

~ So what about the root problem?

~ How will this impact the residents of Lanikai?

~ Will this sort of mischief continue in that particular neighborhood?

~ Will other neighborhoods become victims of this sort of vandalism?

~ How will the police respond?...and what did they do about the rash of complaints in that were ongoing in area?

~ Lance, How would you have handled this incident or any future incidents?

Lots of Questions...no answers...Stop me!...I can go on and on - forever!...Esme help! I'm going over the falls!

Yes, it was stupid what the kids did...pure childish behavior. But how old is Jervis?? 65? 70? Be a responsible adult and call the cops. Why in the hell are you chasing after these fools? Because they threw eggs at your house? I have no problems with those kids being punished for what they did, but Jervis chased after them with an INTENT to do something...and it sure wasn't to give them a scolding. He could have killed someone. What a loser.

Yeah, I was gonna bring up what LRob mentioned -- Jervis's age. Heh. Worked for an aged Bruce Wayne in Frank Miller's infamous (least to us who know comic books) Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. And, since we're on the comic book tip, you know, when I see Jervis's name I think of Jarvis -- The Avengers' butler. Now HE woulda' took care of anyboty throwing eggs at Avenger's Mansion.

I'm not journalist, but, this situation shouldn't be a lead story in the paper on account of how noboty got killed. On the other hand, the whole "is this generation of teens or early to mid-20s types out of control/should we reinstate the draft?" kinda' discussion should be made. This ain't front page headlines -- heck, I'm more worried about what kind of dish to bring to my folks' house for Easter Sunday [!] than I'm worried 'bout this situation. Stuff like the aftermath of the Cyrus Belt situation is more important than this egg thing (just get Dominick Dunne's show to do a show on this thing and be done with it).

I agree with all of you. Jervis should have called the police. The police would have caught them and hopefully, the police would have gone to the establishment that served the booze and throw the books at them. Jervis acted just like a teenager, go foe revenge cause they had mess'up my stuffs. Shame on you Jervis... kids will be kids but it's the parenting and the trust that both parents and child get a good understanding as to consequences and resposibilities. I did my share of Lo Lo things. bringing back the draft is not going to solve this problem..

But, you DO see this as a "problem," apparently, no? All's I'm saying is, if teens and 20s are too bored nowadays, well, there IS a war going on and we're constantly told of troop levels, most of the time LOW troop levels. Maybe Charlie Rangle's (a N.Y. Democrat U.S. Representative who pretty much restarted the idea) idea should be considered. You know. Maybe these teens and 20s won't be so bored anymores.

Mr. Lance -- you must needs tell us how you'd deal with this situation. Tell, tell.

OK I was still thinking of this one. But you know what? This story no hold one candle next to the stories in Mililani. You know, the one about the two guys that had beat up one old lady and take her car when she was going take her grandkids to school. Pilau buggahs. Den later they went go rip off some other old lady and shoved her in one room. Where's Jervis then? Maybe if he had chase down these real criminals then Oahu might be a little more safer. Let's differentiate between the real "punks" and a bunch of kids.

Yeah, yah . . . you know, you're right, MoOgooGuypAN . . . that WAS a bigger news story. I thought it was reported widely enough. But, yeah, much bigger story than these privlegeds (lawyer, private school kids) in a privleged part of town; though, Mililani's kind of properous; heck, I live there, too, bwwhahaha.

But, I said it already . . . there are bigger local news stories we have to worry about than this eggs throwing stuffs.

There are more serious problems but this egg story involved disgraced former trustee Jervis so get mo ink. I agree with Mo that HPD should be concentrating on the Mililani hijack cases and step up surveillance because of recent incidents.
