Wassap Wit Dat!
You got the Cat...now here come da Dog! As much as wahine, kane can wala'au (talk story), although Lance Kwon admits their bark is usually bigger than their bite. We're letting Lance blog because he works in the accounting department and controls our money. So what's he blogging about? Anything and everything, from the male point of view!

If It Ain't Broke...

In case you haven't noticed all the advertisements, The Honolulu Advertiser is overhauling it's website. Yup, the big "C" word. No, not that one. But Change.

Everytime you hear that word it might as well be the "other" one because it always does one of two things - overcome odds and come out ahead, or slowly wither away.

Change is good. Change is bad. No matter what, there will always be two sides of change - those who agree with it and those who don't. You'll never satisfy everyone and you better believe that there will always be at least one person fighting it.

So when is change good? If you really think about it, change is for those who have a stake in it and/or want something out of it, otherwise what does it matter?

When change is bad, it's the same thing because those who don't want change are afraid that what they already have will be taken away or minimized in some way.

Then there are those who don't care either way. Why? Because they have no stake in it. That's why you're able to spot who has the most to gain or lose by how loud they bark and if they bite, the change must have been major.

Wassap Wit Dat?

Change can also be masked with words like "improved" or "redesigned" since just hearing the "C" brings about the tunnel-vision in even the most level headed person.

It's all around us whether we expect it or not, so it begs me to ask, are you one of those who question change or just go with the flow?

The site takes awhile to get used to Take a look at our new website (launches at 2pm today - countdown above 'breaking news') showcasing a "redesigned" and "improved" layout. The site is interactive where anyone can start up a blog (as you will find out soon enough by what I'm assuming will be choke people, then you guys no need me any more), post pics & vids, and comment on every single story.

The site will take awhile to get used to but it is easy on the eyes and sports a modern look. And in case you're wondering where all the bloggers are (took me awhile to find it myself), look at the top of the page, 'hover' over "Opinion", 'hover' over to "Featured Blogs" and click.

Hope you enjoy it!

I'm thinking I'll like the new site. Of course, I still have to do a long-term test drive to make a final conclusion but the concepts behind it are cool.

I bet some users will complain because they don't want to change from their ancient computer running Windows 95/98/ME with a 33.6kbps dial-up modem. Aysos!

saw the preview for the new layout...looks nice but you're right takes some getting used to. i guess we'll find out around 2:05pm today :-P
as far as letting readers do their own blogs...hmm...nice concept, to make it more interactive and all, i just hope it doesn't turn into another personal networking place where they tell every detail and give TMI! that's what Myspace, Facebook, Xanga and the like are for right? i dunno, i just hope they can monitor what goes on in that respect...can't forget that the site's main focus should be on relaying news to readers before they worry about making it cooler to look at. IMHO

eMH: Glad to hear that you'll be a here for the "long term" and there's no doubt the techies will get hashed by a few people until all the kinks get worked out. kkkrrrrrssshhhheeeeerrrrrr (dial-up modem sound)

munch: Yeah, I hope it doesn't turn into that because it's always the few that ruin the bunch...munch. hee hee, just wanted to rhyme

change - it's good, once you get used to it! i once transferred offices and had to get used to my new manager's style, which took almost as long as i was there before i went back to my original office & mgr!

btw - got back from vegas @ the butt- crack of dawn easter sunday . . . no big wins, just at the malls. but i had fun, just cruising and shopping :)

i don't wanna go back until i go to a different state first - for more than 1 hour (i have to say that b/c we stayed in henderson w/my friend's cousin and went to the hoover dam and was in arizona for all of 15 minutes!)!!

haha! dial-up!!i used to hate when i would use the extra-super-duper-long 30' phone cord to connect from the jack in the kitchen to my computer in my room, then when all the sound effects stopped (that meant i was connected woo hoo!) somebody calls the house. dangit. disconnected! LOL ahhh but i digress :-P back to work!

the only thing i'm worried about is people not wanting to create a profile and then we lose some of our valuable bloggers!! i was able to test out the beta site for a couple of weeks, but since there wasn't alot of people on there i ended up coming back to this site...oh well...i normally go directly to the blogs page anyways! lol!!

Checked it out and not really feelin' it. I just like clicking on your folks blog and type away. The new site, you have to log on with a password and build a profile...too much work. Besides, most of us blog from work and too much info on us can get us busted. It's cool that everyone can create a blog on your guys site, but get plenty other alternatives out there. I just see it as being another form of Myspace for Hawaii people and if everyone does it, I'll be over it.

I love Change....w/o change, we would still be in the Stone Ages.

In my humble opinion, I think that CHANGE is good when that change or its purpose, is intended to improve.

If we stick to the old "If it aint broke, no fix em", then we will still be on horse carriages.

True 'dat! I believe change is good when it benefits the majority, not the minority and then those in the minority...just suck it up! Plus, I no like smell or step in horse poo.

The problem I have with build your own blogs is the mindless ranting or senseless topics. Sites like MySpace and Facebook make me dizzy.

CW,

You are in it for the wrong reason if you're getting dizzy on MySpace. People go to MySpace for the possibilities of "hooking up" so its about all about "pimping your page" in those type of personalized blogs.

And Kwonics Blogs are all about the local style "small kine talk story" for fun and for relax. No more that "pimping up" and its not needed.
