Thanks Dave! Great reality check!
- especially those overboard parents/coaches/administrators that want to win at all cost or forget that its just a game and for the kids!
In response to: Pacwest Basketball Tonight!

Hey Soccer,

Sorry about posting so late...this one got lost in the mountain of emails from the busy January-February frame.

The OIA girl's championship aired because of two main things. One, we try to provide the ladies with some equity on TV. Football uses up so many nights it's hard to makeup. Two, the date of these championships did not conflict with anything else.

Simply put there are not enough open nights and dollars to allow everything to be shown. In previous years we did show HHSAA soccer...although tape delayed. So we do look hard at soccer and do what we can when we can.

Every year it's tough to decide what goes on and what doesn't.

Thanks for your passion and writing in.
Hey Arch,

Great point about ILH sailing! It so nice to see mixed teams in action, working together to represent one school.

In response to: Paddles Up!

ILH sailing doesn't have boy/girl divisions. A boat can be boy/boy, girl/girl, or girl/boy. It's all the same. No other high school sport that I know of is like this.

I'm being serious here: you know what'd be the überrest of 'riffics? School chess championship! I mean, heck, it would take a while, but, you know, you have an overhead cam', have the right play-by-play announcers (they can give chess tips and strategies during lulls) . . . can turn out real nice!

It'd be a good way to highlight the athlete that doesn't get the print or airtime normally. Cheap to show, too, no?

Oh . . . ooh, woo . . . I am the poster who is first!!!!!

Hi Dave,

Is there any chance of a rebroadcast of both the girls doubleheader from Friday night and the boys doubleheader from Sturday night. I was at the games, but would love to see them again. I'm not sure there was ever a better season of Div. 1 & Div. 2, boys & girls finals.

Wow Dave, thanks for the heads up. I just flipped to the Aiea/Farrington game to see the exciting last few minutes and the OT. Will this become a regular feature and did OC16 actually invest in all of the HD equipment or is it rented? If this will become a regular feature, I hope Oceanic gets the UH football contract so that we can see the Warriors in the magnificent HD.

In response to: Aloha Friday Hoops - Saturday HD!

I read Wes and Stephen regularly so I did see their mention once it was underway.

I'm open so people can email or call me direct. Definitely not insentive to a work situation but wouldn't a little heads up or explanation been ok?

Not going to debate this in "comments" - I've left the first comment up because I'm not hiding. Just think it's interesting how people can be braver in their words and actions when it's behind anonymous blog names.

In the end, I hope it works out for everyone involved.

Sorry Dave, but they shouldn't have to ask. Gannet is really trying to put the screws to the HA employees and this show of support would have been painless on your part. Unless of course you weren't aware of this action.
Out of respect of others, I would've hoped you would have showed solidarity and postponed your blog. Even if you don't have any official ties to those on strike. Instead, you chose self interest.

That's OK.

We now know where your character stands.

Thanks for your response but if you say football gets the nod from the sheer size of interest in the sport...then why take our basketball boys to Mililani if YOU think nobodys gonna watch??!! Obviously you must think people will watch if you take our HOME game AWAY!!

Aloha KahukuMom - thanks for your comments. Most of what you've mentioned we've covered in previous comments.

But to answer some new points you bring up, we didn't do the basketball game from Kahuku because of transmission means. True no fiber, but that wouldn't keep the webcast from happening because it orginates from Oceanic. It's the added cost of satellite from Kahuku that keeps more events from being done from there. Football gets the nod from the sheer size of interest in the sport.

You feel passionate and protective of your teams, I agree you should. We too feel for athletes of all schools. For me personally, I would never patronize anyone with an "oh well" type of attitude or response.

As for fixing things...we work with the OIA (and all leagues) constantly. Will it ever be perfect for basketball? No. Because we do doubleheaders, at least one team will have to move off of its homecourt.

Please keep in touch and feel free to contact me directly at Oceanic.

Aloha!
